Estimation Techniques

Before any project evolves into planning, designing, writing and coding you must provide the estimation. Your customer wants to know what the project will cost them. It can be a tricky question to answer. Sometimes providing estimates for drupal websites can take on risks. Two of the biggest issues are understanding what the client really wants, or can do away with, and knowing what techniques will get you the most accurate estimate. One other underlying issue, is fearing that the project will escalate into something bigger than actually planned for, for example if the client tries to add in tasks to the scope.

Pay attention to the requirements and make sure you have sufficient time to complete the tasks. Outline all of the specifics in the scope, make sure there are no hidden tasks to be done. Before you sign off the project make sure that the requirements are clear to both parties. As a professional you should keep a rule never to cross the allocated hours, otherwise you will incure losses and potentially lose faith with client if you are trying to request more time to be added on.

Risk management is something that every project manager should review. Risk management is the identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks. Fully evaluate all the risks so that you can prepare yourself. If the risk is greater, you must plan for it by adding more time for research and investigation. Don’t overlook even the smallest things, they can come back and haunt you!
