Creating a subscription feature using Stripe

Creating a subscription feature using Stripe

Would you like to integrate with Stripe, and add a Stripe subscription component to your web app, website, or SaaS (Software as a Service) business? This article will explain the process to set up a subscription plan for your customers.

First, you will need to know or have already integrated/connected with Stripe. You can learn how to connect with Stripe by reading the following. Once you have connected your website or platform with Stripe, you can begin to create a subscription component using the Stripe administrator dashboard.

Below are the steps that it takes to create the subscription feature.

Step 1. Create a new plan

Log in to the Stripe admin dashboard. In the left menu, click on the “Billing” option, then on the “Products” item in the submenu. Then click on the “New” button in the top right corner of the page to add a new plan.

Step 2. Add the product

Add your new product name in the “Product name” field, then enter the “Unit label“. The product name will appear in both your dashboard and the customer’s receipts.

Add the Statement descriptor, again, your customers will see this in the bank statements. Last, click on the “Create product” button.

Step 3. Add the pricing

First, add the “Plan nickname“, and add the “Plan ID“. This is for identifying the plan in the API. Next, select your “Currency” this will be the currency that your plans will be charging for the plan. Next, add the “Price per unit” note that you cannot change it after you save the settings. Enter the “Billing Interval“, again this cannot be changed after being saved. A great feature which Stripe offers, is a trial period. You can add the optional “Trial period” if needed. Now click on “Add pricing plan” at the bottom of the page.

That is it! The next steps are optional.

Step 4. Test the plan

You can test the plan by recreating an identical plan as you did in the previous steps. By creating the identical plan, you can then make a subscription, and test this plan to make sure the payments are correct.
